It has become apparent to me that the title of preacher is no longer appropriate as I am no longer a pastor or a preacher in a church. the fact of the matter is that I was ready to kick the jerks out.......... and I realized that , on occasion, I was one of them. Therefore, preacher is no longer appropriate.
HOWEVER, SINCE i am sure that there was never a preacher who wasn't in love with the sound of his or her own voice, I am sure that my musings will find a ready audience.
I originally left the adult warning up as I am sure that the behavior of some folk will cause me to resort to profanity. I have concluded that a swear word or two will probably not warp anyone who reads my posts.
Read Leonard Pitts today in the paper. IF i could write as he does, I WOULDN'T HAVE TO WORK FOR A LIVING. he has a grasp of events and people that leave me envious at the least.
The description of the conservatives as professional victims was brilliant, and right on the money!
In "Ethics for the New Millenium', the Dalai Lama said that in any culture or time, only 5-10% of any people are willing to endure the pain of asking difficult questions. Why, and how, and when questions. The other 90% only want the answers so they can go about their lives.
That is why it is so difficult to converse with conservatives; they already have answers that meet their needs. Experience shows, that if they are pressed to really think about the incongruities of their world view, they react violently.
Happened to MLK Jr, happened to George Tiller, could happen to anyone, including you, if you talk about these issues.
But what is the alternative? We can stand in opposition to bigotry and closed minds, or we can give in to the oppression of the least common denominator.
